Zero Emission Process Steam Generator (ZGPT)

The Zero Emission Process Steam Generator (ZGPT) is an innovative yet straightforward system designed to produce process steam for industrial applications. The system consists of well-known engineering components—heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, and valves—making it reliable and easy to operate. The ZGPT operates on reverse thermodynamic cycles similar to those used in heat pumps. The key difference is that the system’s output is not the heating of water, as in typical heat pumps, but the generation of process steam. The system captures thermal energy primarily from waste heat in technological processes, significantly reducing primary energy (fuel) demand, and in many cases enabling the complete elimination of fuel consumption.

Waste heat that would normally be lost during cooling processes is reused to produce steam, creating a closed energy loop that also minimizes water usage in cooling circuits. Since the system is powered by electricity—and if that electricity is sourced from renewable energy sources (RES)—the entire process is fully zero-emission.

Zero Emission Process Steam Generator (ZGPT) Parameters:

  • Modularity: the system can be assembled from modular units with capacities of 1, 2, or 4 t/h of process steam, or tailored to the plant’s specific needs;
  • Outlet steam pressure up to 6 bar (g);
  • Overall COP of 2–4, depending on the application;
  • Capability to produce saturated or superheated steam;
  • Compact footprint: a 4 t/h unit requires approximately 10 m × 7 m;
  • Potential for full CO2 zero-emission operation.
