Description

SSAB EMEA AB is a part of SSAB group – a global producer of quality steel. The steel plant is located in Borlänge Sweden and has two reheating furnaces for heating steel, furnace 302 with a total firing power rate of 129 MW and a Furnace 301 with a total firing power rate of 152 MW. In 2006, ICS equipped the zone 1 and 2 of the Furnace 301 with HTB low NOX emission burners, while in 2008, further four zones were upgraded: 3, 4, 7 and 8 by installing further HTB burners also working on propane. Due to need of modernization of the fuel supply installation (oil) at the Furnace 301, Inwestor decided to replace the oil installation with a new, natural gas installation.
The project done by ICS concerned design, prefabrication, erection and commissioning of natural gas installations and auxiliary installations, such as relief installations, nitrogen purging installations as well as compressed air installations.

Installation

The natural gas installation is composed of the main installation as well as nine zones. The main natural gas installation starts with the measurement and control panel (called Flowtrain 10) mainly consisting of a manual shut-off valve, pneumatic shut-off valves and measurement orifice.
Each zone installation contains a separate measurement and control panel (Flowtrain 100 – 900) at which the components like a manual shut-off valve, pneumatic shut-off valves, automatic regulation valve and measurement orifice are mainly installed. In zones 1, 2, 4, and 6 the natural gas is delivered directly from the flowtrains to the burners. In zones 3, 5, 7, 8, and 9 the installation is additionally equipped with sub-control panels consisting of a manual shut-off valve, automatic regulation valve and measurement orifice from which the gas is delivered to the group of burners. The investment was in a form of a “turn key formula” directly for the benefit of the investor.
