Swirl burners combustion technology

Swirl burners are solutions commonly used in industry. They have a wide range of applications for burning:

  • gaseous fuels;
  • liquid fuels;
  • solid fuels (coal dust or biomass).

A characteristic feature of swirl burners is the introduction of the air stream—or air and fuel mixture—into a swirling motion. This swirling can be achieved in various ways:

  • aerodynamic – by shaping the stream, e.g., tangential entry in relation to the burner surface;
  • using vanes – which direct the flow of the medium (inducing swirling motion);
  • mixed method – combining both of the above techniques.

This organization of the combustion process aims to ensure better mixing of the supplied combustion components and their mixing with previously formed post-flame gases (flue gases).

The result of introducing swirling is improved combustion efficiency and flame stability. This translates into reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions of harmful compounds—particularly nitrogen oxides (NOₓ) and carbon monoxide (CO).

The combustion technology we offer for swirl burners is focused on utilizing low-calorific waste gases, especially in cases where volumetric combustion technologies cannot be applied. Available solutions allow operation not only with a single type of gas but also with various gases, such as waste gases, natural gas, or LPG. Additionally, the offered swirl burners can also be fueled with heating oil, significantly expanding the application range of swirl combustion technology.

In the proposed swirl combustion technology, swirling of the medium is achieved by using a set of swirlers located at the outlet of the burner. In the axis of the burner, a nozzle for the primary/main fuel is positioned. Primary air is supplied through the internal swirler, resulting in a rich mixture being burned in the first combustion zone. Secondary air for the combustion process is supplied through the external swirlers, which creates a staged combustion process in the combustion chamber. This solution not only stabilizes the combustion process and reduces pollutant emissions but also enables precise control of operating temperature.

The offered solution can be used in both fire-tube and water-tube boilers, ensuring reliable operation and high efficiency. This makes it an ideal solution for many industrial and energy applications.
